Hosting and secure delivery
This personal website is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestraße 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany, in the EU. Delivering a page requires processing your IP address, the requested URL, date and time, and technical browser and connection information.
Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, helps deliver this website and protect it against attacks, processing connection and security data for these purposes. Processing outside the EU, including in the USA, is possible. Cloudflare refers to its EU–US Data Privacy Framework certification and, where applicable, standard contractual clauses as transfer safeguards.
The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: my legitimate interest in operating a reliable and secure website. Technical data may also be processed to diagnose errors and investigate security incidents. Technical records kept on my server have no fixed retention period: older entries are automatically replaced by new entries as the available log storage fills. The timing therefore depends on the volume of records. Provider-side retention depends on the service, security purpose and applicable obligations; further information is linked below. Records needed to investigate a specific incident may be retained until the investigation is complete.
Cookies
When you change the language, the necessary NEXT_LOCALE session cookie remembers your selection. It contains the language code and has no persistent expiry; browsers normally remove it at the end of the session, although session restoration can preserve it. The basis for storing or accessing it is Section 25(2)(2) TDDDG; any associated personal-data processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR and the interest in providing the language you selected.
Cloudflare may use necessary security cookies when protection or challenge features are triggered. Their names and duration depend on the feature; details are linked below. No advertising or analytics cookies are set by this application. You can delete or block cookies in your browser; your language preference or security checks may then be affected.
Contact and external links
Email links open your email application. There is no contact form. If you contact me, I process your sender details and message to respond. The basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for requests relating to a contract, and otherwise Article 6(1)(f) GDPR for handling correspondence. Messages are deleted when the matter is resolved and no retention duty or need to establish, exercise or defend legal claims remains. Where a statutory duty applies, retention is based on Article 6(1)(c) GDPR.
LinkedIn is an ordinary external link, not an embedded plugin. Data is sent to LinkedIn when you follow the link; its privacy policy then applies. Images and fonts are served locally. This website does not use analytics or advertising tracking.
Your rights
Subject to the legal conditions, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability under Articles 15–20 GDPR. You may object to processing based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR on grounds relating to your particular situation under Article 21 GDPR. Any consent can be withdrawn with effect for the future. You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the EU country of your habitual residence, place of work or the alleged infringement (Article 77 GDPR). In North Rhine-Westphalia this is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (LDI NRW). There is no automated decision-making or profiling by this application. Providing data is not a statutory requirement; connection data is technically necessary to deliver pages, and contact details are needed to answer a message.
