eCommerce Engineering · Ruhr Area

Digital engineering for mid-sized eCommerce.

Backend engineering, APIs and fulfillment systems for online shops and B2B platforms — from Germany's Ruhr area. Enterprise engineering quality, without the enterprise complexity.

Enterprise engineering, without the corporate noise

By day, digital engineering at a major enterprise — focus on backend for scalable online platforms. With Kumpel-IT I bring backend engineering, APIs and fulfillment systems to where they're often missing: the German Mittelstand — exactly the stretch many shop agencies don't cover. Clean implementation instead of consulting decks. Clean APIs you actually own instead of vendor lock-in. Fixed prices with a clear scope instead of six-figure day rates.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The most important answers about working together at a glance.

01What services do you offer in the Ruhr area?
Four focused fixed-price packages for mid-sized eCommerce: API & integration engineering between shop, ERP and third-party systems, custom fulfillment & order management, product API & PIM backends for multi-channel distribution, and custom tools with optional backend AI.
02Do you work fixed-price or by the hour?
Standard packages run on a fixed price after a clear scope. For custom tools I start with a discovery call and a detailed fixed-price proposal. You know upfront what it costs — no day-rate surprises.
03How does part-time collaboration work?
Plain and transparent: I'm employed full-time elsewhere and take on projects on the side. What that means for you: clear project scopes, defined delivery dates, asynchronous communication. What it does not mean: 24/7 standby or emergency support. For ongoing IT support I'm happy to recommend partners.
04Why your own APIs and backends instead of off-the-shelf SaaS?
Off-the-shelf SaaS is quick to set up, but in the long run it locks you into monthly per-seat fees, vendor lock-in and data dependency. Your own backends and APIs are an upfront investment that often pays off by year two — and hand control of your data and processes back to you. I don't decide this on ideology, I decide it on the maths.
05What does a discovery call look like?
30 minutes by video or phone, free of charge and non-binding. I clarify your needs, give you an honest read on whether I'm the right partner — and if I am, you receive a fixed-price proposal within 5 business days.
06Are you available outside the Ruhr area?
Project work runs remotely, so location-flexible by default. For larger projects, on-site sessions in the Ruhr area are part of the deal — for clients further afield I sort it out individually.
07Can you also set up paperless office processes?
Yes — as a custom-tools project. I define the scope in the discovery call and ship a tailored solution with documentation and handover to your team.
